Anger Management

Knowing Your Brain State

If you have struggled with hostility, you may judge yourself. We are all responsible for our behavior, but in any stressed state, some people have brains that respond with depression, anxiety, mania or numbness, and some have strong feelings of anger, hostility and range. Understanding brain states can be very helpful in removing the shame, and becoming more effective in responding to anger effectively.

The Basics

When strong emotional circuits from past trauma or early life become activated, a cycle of hostility, aggression and remorse can occur. Although episodes may occur at work or at home, this is often a relational circuit from the earliest hurts in life.

The EBT Approach

In EBT, we approach anger management as a rewiring process, to learn the basic tools of EBT, then move into individual coaching to nab just the circuits that trigger these episodes. Learn how to respond more effectively when you are triggered, and to move up your emotional set point so that these circuits are less likely to become triggered. Also, all unbalanced emotions can become addictive (“Survival Circuits”).

Taking responsibility for our actions when in a stressed state is important, but there is no brain-based reason for shame about anger addiction. It’s an emotional circuit that becomes encoded during trauma, and the opportunity with EBT is to rewire that circuit.

Getting Started

Take our EBT Basics: Wired for Joy Course. You’ll begin to think in terms of brain states, and wires, and learn how to switch your brain from any level of stress back to joy. When stresses are high, rely on EBT Coaching so that you can approach immediate stressors more effectively.

Choose the reward that matters most to you, and then move through the EBT courses until you have an abundance of it, and you are wired for joy.
